I thought about this long and hard before opening up the blog. I realize that there may be a submission from every subscriber. So, if we put it to a straight vote, it's likely that we will have a ton of submissions, and every one will get one vote (from it's author).
So, I have made a few criteria to help narrow things down. First, out of all of the potential submissions (authors will only have to submit a brief one or two paragraph synopsis), I will choose a few to put up for a vote. I realize that it is subjective, but someone has to provide some screening, and as the moderator of this blog, I guess that it will be me.
Synopses will need to be sent to me via email (the original author will maintain the rights to the book and the synopsis, I'm not looking to infringe on your copyright).
I will read the synopses, and narrow down the list ( to somewhere between 2 and 5 selections) and I will post the synopses in the blog specific forum on the product information page of this blog.
My selection will be based on a few things:
First, priority will be given to individuals who are most active in this blog (there are currently only 2 subscribers who have contributed edits, and if that continues to be true, they will get first shot at posting their work). It's only fair that more active subscribers get more preference. Of course, as more people become active in their suggestions (which is bound to happen as we move on through the book), this pool will expand.
Second, how well the synopsis is written (grammar and spelling count on a synopsis for a conventional publisher, they should count here as well).
Third, how well the synopsis grabs me (a synopsis can make or break a book in sales, it should do so here as well). A good "hook" could work magic here. So could some plainold, straight-forward honesty.
Then you will be allowed to vote (either in the forum, or via email if you would prefer for it to be more private). I feel that the last two criteria will also play a role here. You will obviously vote for the most professional and interesting synopsis, so these items will become doubly important.
Our subscriber is slowly and steadily expanding, so I see bright things in our future as a team of writers! Good luck with your writing and editing, and thank you for subscribing.
